Turn Clutter Into Kindness

Spring cleaning is in full swing and we wanted to share some tips for how you can use unwanted items to make a difference! Declutter this spring while also making an impact in your community. We call that a win for everyone!

Have a drawer full of old t-shirts you want to purge? Cut and braid to create simple dog toys! You can even add an old tennis ball for extra fun. These are a pup favorite for the perfect game of tug-of-war! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bm7ez7QJ_Fs
These dog toys can be donated to your local dog shelter or given to pups in your neighborhood. Also, before throwing out those old towels, sheets or blankets, consider contacting your local dog shelter as many will accept gently used towels and linens for their pups!

Is your house bursting at the seams with craft supplies, especially those pesky broken crayons? We absolutely love these creative ideas for giving old crayons new life! From creating vibrant candles, to coloring homemade playdoh, to making wax seals for handwritten letters, there are so many fun ideas here that could be used as a Random Act of Kindness or for the perfect handmade gift! https://www.weareteachers.com/broken-crayons/
Not feeling creative? Atlanta non-profit, Scraplanta, accepts used art supplies and re-sells at a discounted rate to encourage the creative re-use of materials. Check out what they accept here: https://www.scraplanta.org/donate
For toy cars, action figures and toy animals no longer getting the play time they deserve, we’ve got the perfect way to give them a second life. Gather them up and visit your local playground, library, or other popular kid destination and hide them for kids to find! Make sure to add a little tag so kids know it’s okay to take them home.
Before tossing that tissue paper, consider using it for this simple, sweet Random Act of Kindness idea! These tissue paper flowers would also be the perfect teacher or Mother’s Day gift for kids to create all on their own: https://www.verywellfamily.com/tissue-paper-flowers-craft-620428

Have books that are just gathering dust? In addition to donating to your nearest little free library or public library, consider hosting a fun book swap! Kids and adults will enjoy trading in gently used books for tickets they can use to come back and shop during the exchange. Don’t want to host a swap? Kids can also take books they’ve outgrown and gift wrap them for younger neighbors and leave on their porch for the perfect surprise!

Plan to try any of these ideas or have others to share? Make sure to tag us on Instagram or Facebook and show us how you are re-using items this spring to make a difference!
