When a child applies to be a Kids Booster, they are paired with their very own coach. A Kids Boost coach’s focus is to make a child feel empowered, valued and capable of making a difference.
Before meeting a potential Kids Booster, one of our coaches gives the parent/guardian a call to further explain the process and learn more about the child. During this initial conversation, we also ask what they hope their child will get out of the process so we can provide appropriate support throughout the project.
The coach will then meet face to face or virtually with the new Kids Booster and their guardian to provide supplies to get started. We also focus on building rapport, getting to know the child, and doing some initial brainstorming about their project.
Once a Kids Booster has decided who they want to raise funds for and how, their coach works behind the scenes to use the child’s own words to create their page on the Kids Boost website. We also reach out to the child’s chosen non-profit to introduce Kids Boost.
Each week, our coaches have a one-on-one phone call or in-person meeting with the Kids Booster to help the child set attainable goals and help hold them accountable. We provide continued encouragement and support, building them up and processing through any difficult tasks/experiences. We try to keep the focus on FUN so that the Kids Booster stays motivated and engaged throughout their project.
Kids Boost is not a cookie-cutter process; every step of the way, our coaches are meeting Kids Boosters where they are and providing individualized support that will help each child grow and feel successful. For example, we may create a calendar to help a child keep track of calls/tasks or simply drop off or mail an extra note of encouragement to keep them going.
Once a Kids Booster has planned their event or is ready to sell their product, their coach is right there to encourage them to engage with event participants/customers and serve as a safe support.
After a Kids Booster’s project is complete, it’s time to celebrate! Our coaches LOVE putting together a special celebration bag, including a Kids Boost t-shirt and a note. We present this bag at a check presentation: a super special time to celebrate a child’s hard work and success and learn more about how the child’s chosen non-profit will use the funds they’ve raised to make a difference! As always, we keep the focus on building a child’s confidence and self-esteem. And, of course, a favorite treat is always a fun way to round out the celebration!
Coaching a child and playing a role in their giving journey is truly an honor that we cherish at Kids Boost. Every child we coach becomes a part of our extended Kids Boost family and we love remaining part of their lives and seeing how they continue to make a difference!
