“Mom, I’m bored!”

Oh the dreaded words.  Bored…. What? How can you possibly be bored? It’s only 7:30 in the morning and the first day of summer!

I’m a believer that it’s okay for kids to be bored every once in while.  It allows them to be creative and think outside the box.  However, let’s face it, they can use some ideas too.  Let’s beat boredom and have some fun.  Here are just a few, simple ideas that you can do with your kids this summer.

  • Finger paint with pudding on wax paper
  • Build a tent in the hallway with sheets and tension rods
  • Make sock puppets
  • Create a time capsule in a show box and bury it in the backyard
  • Have an indoor picnic
  • Make “magic potions” with water and food coloring
  • Design an indoor obstacle course
  • Throw an impromptu dance party
  • Set up a pretend grocery store or toy store
  • Use a necktie as a blindfold and do taste tests with random foods
  • Cut up pictures or postcards to make your own puzzles
  • Decorate your bike with streamers and host a parade
  • Host a tea party
  • Open a “restaurant” – allow your kids to make a menu and even help cooking and serving
  • Make your own bubbles with water, dish washing soap and light corn syrup
  • Create your own scavenger hunt
  • Eat ice-cream for breakfast
